he 1980s brought changing trends into the waste market with increased reclamation, T recycling and waste minimization efforts. Adapting proven tcchnologies has aided in moving these three forms of waste managcment forward. A t EncycleITexas, Inc. (ETI), the fundamental objcctive of recycling is to convert hazardous waste into products. Founded in 1988, ET1 recycles metalbearing waste streams to provide waste generators with an alternative to waste disposal. The company's 104-acre plant is located in Corpus Christi, Texas on the site of a former zinc refinery. The refinery began operation in the late 1940s by ETI's parent company, ASARCO, lnc., to meet the country's zinc demand during World War 11. Today, ET1 reclaims metals from I i q ii id a t i d so I id waste with h y r o in e ta I I 11 rg ica 1 technology a method using chemical reactions in q i t eous solutions to separate and recover metals.
